What is the Erasmus Program?
Mutual recognition among the countries of the European Commission, by promoting institutional co-operation between the member and candidate countries and the EU Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries (Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) Erasmus, which is part of the Socrates (General Education) Program of EU Education and Youth Programs which aims to better use and develop its potential, is the program that organizes cooperation at higher education level from Socrates programs. It has been implemented in European Union countries since 1987 and was included in Socrates programs in 1995.

It can be said that EU Education and Youth Programs are the most attractive program in terms of having 1 million 250 thousand students exchanged as of 2004.

It was named after the Dutch scientist Erasmus (1469-1536), who was one of the most important representatives of Renaissance Humanism because of his name as a student and an academician in various European countries.

The aim of the Erasmus program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and to strengthen the European dimension. This goal can be summarized as offering the best practices in various European countries to the benefit of Europe.

Erasmus program, stated objectives; It encourages transnational cooperation between universities, by exchanging students and educators in Europe, and by contributing to the academic recognition and transparency of studies and degrees achieved in the countries participating in the program.
Erasmus is not a scholarship program!Only students who are able to make student exchanges can contribute to their students individually.  This support for students from Turkey, fixed 500 euros for the 2004-2005 period, in addition, is applied as 300 euros per month for the period 2005-2006, it has been identified as a monthly 400 euros.
How does the program work?
In order to participate in the program, after joining the EU Education and Youth Programs as a country, first of all, higher education institutions should apply to Erasmus University Charter (EUU) and get approval from EU Commission in order to get the right to participate in Erasmus program as legal entity. This approval means "entry ticket" to some kind of program. The EU Commission accepts the corporate information given in the Declaration as being valid because it carries the approval of the rectorate of the university, but if any information in this information or any information intended to be misleading is found in some way, the relevant university loses credibility with the universities and the Commission it cooperates with. This can eliminate the co-operation that they intend to do later. The deadline for this application is 1 November each year. The EÜB gives universities the right to participate in activities supported by the Erasmus program. 65 of the applications made from 1 November 2003 to Turkey have been favorable. In other words, as of the 2004-2005 academic year, 65 higher education institutions can participate in Erasmus activities. As of 2004-2005, the number of higher education institutions participating in the program is around 2200.As of 2005-2006, this number will be 2382.  As of November 1, 2004, there are 14 Turkish higher education institutions among 183 new institutions that apply to participate in the program and have approved the Erasmus University Charter. Thus, as of 2005-2006 period, 79 higher education institutions will be able to take part in Erasmus.
