About

Institute of Seljuk Researches  was established in 1985 as the Seljuk Studies Center with the will and donations of the Uzluk Family (Feridun Nafiz Uzluk-Şehabettin Uzluk-Nimetullah Uzluk).

The center continued its activities in a small room in the Seljuk University Faculty of Architecture and Engineering until the 1990s, then moved to a building allocated near the Mevlana Tomb and continued its services there until 2013. The Seljuk Studies Center, which was moved to the Seljuk University BESYO building in 2013, had its library of 14 thousand rare books consisting of various manuscripts and books stored in the cellar of the Prof. Dr. Erol Güngör Library and left to rot. At this stage, the activities of the Seljuk Studies Center also decreased to almost nothing.

The Seljuk Studies Center, which moved to the second floor of the Museum Building in 2017, has actively started its work in the field of Seljuk Culture and Civilization, its library has been classified, manuscripts have been transferred to CD, Uzluk Specialized Library and SÜSAK Library have been integrated with Prof. Dr. Erol Güngör Library and have been offered to students and researchers.

The Seljuk Studies Center has started to publish regularly twice a year under the name of Seljuk Studies Journal since 2016. Seljuk Studies Journal is currently scanned in international databases and indexes.

In Konya, which was the capital of the Seljuks of Turkey, the center was transformed into an Institute by the Presidential Decree with the efforts of our Rector Prof. Dr. Metin Aksoy, with the necessity of representing the Seljuk Civilization and Culture, from which our university also takes its name, and providing postgraduate education in this field at an international level, training researchers and continuing scientific meetings. An institute with this name, as mentioned before, is the first and only one in Türkiye. The Seljuk Studies Institute will continue to lead studies in the field of Seljuk Culture and Civilization as it has done so far.

As a result of the applications made to the graduate programs within the institute, a positive decision was made by YÖK on July 16, 2021. The “Seljuk History and Civilization Department” and “Seljuk Art and Archaeology Department” were established in the institute and students were accepted to the graduate programs opened in the Fall semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year and two graduates have been given to date.
