Purpose: Department of Soil Science was founded in 1982. In 2010 the department name was changed to Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition. Scientific branches of the Department are Soil Science and Plant Nutrition. Department provides undergraduate and graduate level of education in the field of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition.

Vision: To generate knowledge and technology for the development, protection and management of land resources, and train Agricultural Engineers applying them in the practice.

Mission: In the agricultural sector, to provide with the scientific solutions of problems related to the scope of the Department, to train technical staff with knowledge in agriculture and soil science, and aiming in environmentally friendly sustainable agriculture, to work with farmers on application practice of the R & D projects, and in a changing world to follow closely the developments in soil science, and to ensure the transfer of them to the students and farmers, and consequently to be beneficial to the society with the experts in the field of education and training.

Program Description: The Department of Soil was established in 1982. In 2010, the name of the department was changes to 'Soil Science and Plant Nutrition'. The two divisions included within the program are 'Soil Science' and 'Plant Nutrition'. The department is authorized for giving education at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Admissions Requirements: High school graduate students wishing to enroll in the program, should manage to complete the process and exams established by ÖSYM. Students involved in domestic or foreign equivalent program may apply for the transfer. Before the admission term of students s, each student's requirements and the application is examined and evaluated individually in accordance with their degrees. With an agreement approved by the University and within the limits of the student exchange programs, students from abroad can take courses in English in the department. Students proficient in Turkish language can register for any courses in Turkish specified in the program. Students, that meet terms and conditions provided by Selcuk University Undergraduate Regulations, have the opportunity to receive training in both major and minor field.

Recognition of Prior Learning: Horizontal transitions from other higher education institutions to the Selcuk University' units is decided in accordance with the provisions of "Regulations Concerning Horizontal Transfer to Undergraduate and Graduate-Level Between Higher Education Institutions ". Transfer applications is evaluated and finalized by the Administrative board. Study time of transfer students, their periods of the education in new organization also considered in the total duration of education and training, which should not exceed the maximum period of duration prescribed by the law, is determined by the unit's administrative council. Vertical transitions of the vocational schools graduates into the undergraduate programs of the Selcuk University is decided by the faculty's administrative board in accordance with the provisions of " Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Graduates of Vocational Schools and Open Education Associate Degree Programs". Transfer between the Departments and Programs of Selcuk University's Faculties, High Schools, Vocational Schools could also be implemented. The principles of such transition is agreed by the directive of the University Senate.

Graduation Requirements: To gain the degree/program and to complete the program after the end of the academic year, there is no special final exam or final exam period. However, at the end of each semester, usually immediately following the end of the semester, there are exams within two weeks period. In addition, for the graduation the student should make a successful internship with the duration of 30 working days. In addition, the student should complete the Final Project at the end of the 7th and/or 8th semesters by presenting the results of this study and presenting orally the findings. This program is in the field of engineering (Agricultural Engineering) in higher education, and is subject to the first phase of degree program with 240 ECTS credits. After successful completion of the program, and gaining competitive qualifications a Bachelor's degree in the field of Agricultural Engineering will be awarded.

Principles of Assessment and Evaluation: At the end of each semester, usually immediately following the end of the semester, there are exams for the period of two weeks. In addition following the 6th semester, during the summer, students should have a successful internship for a period of 30 working days. In addition, the student should complete the Final Project at the end of the 7th and/or 8th semesters by presenting the results of this study and presenting orally the findings.

Employment Opportunities: Graduates of the Department may find opportunities to work at the provincial and district directorates of agriculture, and agricultural research institutes under the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, state water professions under the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, universities, special provincial administrations, General Directorate of Highways Department, municipalities, public and private banks, agricultural offices, agricultural credit cooperatives, irrigation associations, insurance companies, engineering firms operating in Land Consolidation, private agricultural advisory bodies, soil, plant, water and fertilizer analysis laboratories, chemical and organic fertilizers factories, chemigation, seed and fertilizer dealers or they may set up their relevant own businesses.

Jump to Top Degree Programs: Candidates, upon successful completion of bachelor's degree, may be enrolled in Master's Degree education programs at the Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences , after receiving base score of ALES, and base score from one of the foreign languages (KPDS, KPDS, TOEFL), or equivalent exams adopted by the Council of Higher Education (YOK), both scores determined by the University Senate.
