Course Objectives The aim of the course is to establish a theoretical base on adsorption processes at the solid-gas and solid-liquid interface. Adsorption equilibrium, derivation of adsorption isotherms, monolayer and multilayer adsorption are of main interest. To teach principles and efficiency of adsorption in the fixed bed column. Examples and problems are chosen to show how isotherms can be calculated. To teach the acterization methods of adsorbents. To give information about ion exchange and adsorption of surfactants and polymers from solution as special applications which are used in paint, ink, detergency sectors and in waste water treatment and in preparation of deionized water.

Course Learning Methods and Techniquies
1.Realization of the difference between physical and chemical adsorption. Learning the principles of equilibrium at the interface. Establishing a theoretical base on adsorption processes at the solid-gas and solid-liquid interface. Derivation of adsorption isotherms of monolayer and multilayer type for adsorption equilibrium. 2. Learning ion exchange, surfactant and polymer adsorption on solid surfaces, which could be applied to areas on wastewater treatment, demineralized water preparation, paint, ink and detergency sectors. 3. Preparation of a term project on the most recent research subjects and the most improved techniques of adsorption and to present this project in the class room to obtain the ability to teach the recently learned subjects to their class mates. 4.Realization of the importance of teamwork during the preparation of projects and homework.
