Purpose: The purpose of the Department is to educate students to explore physical and chemical properties of rocks and minerals constituting the earth changes occured by internal and external factors during the billions of years faults, folds etc., structures distribution, reserve and geometry of underground resources methods and techniques of geo-engineering acteristics of rocks as used basic materials of engineering structures.

Vision: Aim of the department is to give education for graduating geological engineers as researchers, qualified, respected and beneficial to humanity who meet the needs of the country and can produce solution for geological problems at international level by providing theoretical and practical education services. It is also aimed to become a respected department that performs research to solve the geological problems of Konya and Turkey, and is accredited at international level.

Mission: Students who win bachelors degree of the Department of Geological Engineering Had lesson schedule be improved according to contemporary daily requirements, Gained occupational knowledge to solve a problem, had ability of tematic approach and design in solving the engineering problems, and of making synthesis and analyses, Gained the conscious to occupational activity, social, economical, political and lawful, Communicated with social and cultural environment, with an mind, Had principle of success and integrity in fulfilling his duties and and solving the problems, Liked and protected his profession, but also in solidarity with other related professions, which won a multidisciplinary ability to work, ? innovative, entrepreneurial, following the developments in the profession, professional equipment , Competed at national and international level as preferred and reliable one in the community and business life, Sensitive to every kind of environment, health and security subjects, Base goal to serve to country, nation and humanity, and prepare persons who contribute to sustainable development by producing solutions geological problems of the country and region, and by supporting public institutions and industry.

Program Description: The Department of Geological Egineering of Selçuk University, including undergraduate and graduate programs, gives following degrees: 1) Geological Engineer, BSc (this program offered by the Department of Geological Egineering of Selçuk University normally requires a four-year study. 2) Master of Science, MSc (this program offered by the division of Geological Engineering at Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences normally requires a two-year study. Students pursuing an MSc are required to take a minimum of 21 credits of coursework and give a seminary in the first year, and to write a thesis in the second year. 3) Doctor of Philosophy, PhD (this program offered by the division of Geological Engineering at Institute of Natural and Applied Sciences normally requires a four-year study. The program comprises a minimum of 21 credits of coursework, preliminary examination, thesis proposal and a written thesis for students with the MSc degree.

Admissions Requirements: High school diploma and Placement through a national-wide Student ion and Palcement examination (YGS and LYS)

Recognition of Prior Learning: Transfer students have the right to be exempted to take the courses that they had been successful in their earlier education. The list of the courses to be exempted is decided by the Department Adaptation Committee after comparing the catalogue deion of the courses received with the courses in our curriculum and corresponding grades received.

Graduation Requirements: A student is required to have a minimum CPGA of 2.0/4.0, have obtained 240 ECTS and no failing grades

Principles of Assessment and Evaluation: After the final/make-up exam of a course, the student will take the course grade taking into account 40% of letter grade of the midterm exam/exams and 60 % of letter grade of the final/make-up exams. To be successful in the course, students have to take at least CC. Points, letter grades and their coefficients are given as following: 90-100 / AA / 4.00, 85-89 / BA / 3.50, 75-84 / BB / 3.00, 70-74 / CB / 2.50, 60-69 / CC / 2.00, 55-59 / DC / 1.50, 50-54 / DD / 1.00, 40-49 / FD / 0.50, 0-39 / FF / 0.00, /F /0.00. AA, BA, BB, CB, CC: Successful, DC, DD: Successful if GPA is equal to or higher than 2.00 otherwise failed, FD, FF: Failed, F: Failed due to absenteesim, not allowed to enter final/make-up exams.

Employment Opportunities: Geological engineers work in a variety of settings. These include: natural resource companies, environmental consulting companies, construction companies, government agencies (e.g. MTA, TPAO, Ministries, Municipalities and Universities etc.).
