Course Objectives The main objective of this course is to familiarize the student with the states and regional politics of the Central Asia and the Caucasus. The course is organized in three main parts. In the initial weeks, the course will focus on the domestic politics, political institutions and foreign policies of the countries in these regions. Then, it will deal with regional political issues and attempts for cooperation. Finally, it will focus on the international actors that impinge on the Central Asia and the Caucasus and the competition among regional and global powers over these regions. Hence, these regions will have been handled with respect to not only the domestic dynamics of the countries located therein, but also regional and global politics.

Course Learning Methods and Techniquies
The course will consist of lectures and in-class discussions. Students will be expected to have read required texts before coming to the class and actively engage in the discussions. In addition, the students that have special interest in the area will be given the opportunity to present additional readings in the class.
