USEFUL INFORMATION

FOR INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE STUDENTS

1. Health      

International exchange students who enrolled in Selcuk University on a degree program are recommended to have medical insurance that will cover hospital care while in Turkey.

 

Medical centres of Selcuk University cure international students as home students.

 

2. Insurance

The students are recommended to obtain adequate insurance covering illness, accidents, disability, death and personal liability before leaving their home country.

 

3. Computer Facilities

University has several computer centers and laboratories that are configured by high capacity hardware and software that are aimed at developing and administering educational material.

 

Many of the lessons in faculties are supported by computer and related application tools, so students can improve themselves by using special software and searching any subject in the laboratories.

 

In addition, experienced Information Staff presents qualified service to all the faculty staff and they work continuously for maintaining and updating those resources.

 

There exist online libraries and many internet services provided by The University “Information and Library Documentation Department” present wide research tools for students and the other faculty staff.

 

Furthermore, university staff and students can get free e-mail service from this department and also broadband internet service that enables them access to an infinite internet usage and an e-mail address.

 

Students, who want to get an e-mail address, must apply to Information Department of the University with their Student ID Card.

 

4. Libraries

University central library provides information and loan services to students at Alaeddin Campus. In addition, every school and institute runs separate and specific collections of books individually.

 

Faculties also have their own libraries, which house various volumes, documents, periodicals, books and a reading area.

 

Total library number within the university is 8. The libraries’ stock of 500,000 volumes and subscription to over 1000 periodicals including online publications, provide resources for the undergraduate and graduate course requirements. Libraries have internet access to international e-libraries and subscribed to CD-ROM data bases in various subjects.

 

Books not available at the library can be obtained through inter-library loan system.

                       

5. International Students Office

International Office and Erasmus Coordination Centre offer reception, assistance and general information for incoming and outgoing students, and staff.

 

These offices organize social, cultural, and educational and leisure activities, and carry out an orientation program for foreign students.

 

 

6. Requirements

6.1. Visa

Foreign students who study at Turkish universities are required to get an educational visa which is issued by the Turkish Embassy in their home country.

 

The acceptance letter, which is required to get the educational visa, is provided by faculties and departments. The students should apply for the educational visa with the following:

           

                     Passport

                     Application form taken from Turkish Embassy

                     1 photograph

                     Proof of their student status in their home country (taken                                  from the school they are currently enrolled).

         Acceptance letter from Selcuk University issued by faculties and departments.

 

6.2. Residence Permit

Foreigners who live in Turkey longer than 3 months have to get a residence permit from the Police Centres.

 

Students may apply for the residence permit after they come to Turkey. They need 4 (four) colored photographs, their passports and the application form (provided by International Office and Erasmus Coordination Centre).

 

7. Accommodation

There are many possibilities for accommodation.

 

First, Selcuk University has own private type of campus dormitory, which furnishes bedding. Meals are not included in the fee but dormitory has canteens where students can eat breakfast and other meals for a cheap cost. For lunch, students can go to Student Restaurants with reasonable prices. Dormitory is located in campus area near to shopping center with banks, a post office, the campus medical center and sports facilities.

 

Second, foreign students can stay with Turkish housemates. The rents for the apartments vary depending on the area they are located.

 

For ERASMUS Students University owned dormitories are offered 50 % less than the announced prices.

 

8. Student Clubs

There are student clubs to promote professional development and leadership. These clubs serve as social outlets as well as networking vehicles. They include: International Relations Club, Economics Club, Music Club, Tourism Club, Communication Club, Environment Club, and Young Investors Club.
