BILMER, which has got the feature of the biggest computer center of  Turkey with an area of 2,500 m2 and 2,000 computers in Selcuk University, serves students and university teachers 365 days a year.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Erdi, Director of the Department of Data Processing, states in an interview by an AA reporter that BILMER consisting of a 3-storey building has been active since 2003.

Directorystates that the center has got 2,000 computers in total, 750 ones in the main hall on the entrance floor, 1,000 ones in the ground hall, and 250 in the classrooms and says, “BILMER, having fiber optic cables of total 100,000 km long used for its network infrastructure formed inside, is the biggest computer center in Turkey as well as one of several biggest ones in the world.”

4,000 STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM IT DAILY

Mr. Erdi, emphasizing that BILMER was founded for the purpose of serving university students, academic personnel, and local people, states, “Students can do homework and any kind of research of theirs in a quiet and safe environment here. Software for specific purposes which our students like to benefit from is also provided on request. BILMER, which approximately 4,000 students benefit from daily, provides service for 12 hours a day between 09.00 and 21.00 including weekends. Our center has got 5 smart classrooms where there are 120 computers with high capacity and superior features and a conference hall for 100 people.” Directoryinforms that students use the Internet connection for 12 hours with a symbolic fee of 1 lira in the center  and that they can get service directly as subscribers for a season, that is, a period of 4 months in return of 25 liras. Directorytells that the center which is kept open 7 days a week from morning until evening, is usually full and says, “University students working part-time in our center are trying to help Internet users in all respects.”

A PROJECT COMPETITION IS GOING TO BE HELD IN THE FIELD OF INFORMATICS

Directorytells that they have organized a competition related to the sector of informatics and says, “We are going to invite our students to propose projects. Evaluating the coming projects, it is planned to give support and a working place to those accepted. The hardware and software which the students have developed will be examined by a jury and then the successful ones will be rewarded.”

Directorystates that courses are given beginning from basic computer usage to high level programming, web design, and system management in the center at various terms and that those successful in these courses are awarded a certificate of achievement approved by the university.
